RAIPUR: A day after Congress MLAs hailed the state government's decision to provide eggs in the midday meals to schoolchildren, as many as 37 social organistaions and networks across Chhattisgarh have extended their support on the same.

Social organizations including Right to Food Campaign, Chhattisgarh Bachao Andolan, Chhattisgarh Mahila Adhikar Manch, Peoples Union for Civil Liberties (PUCL), Chhattisgarh Bal Adhikar Abhiyan, Chhattisgarh Naagrik Sanyukt Sangarsh Samiti, Sarva Adivasi Samaj, Bastar Aadim Jati Baiga Samaj have come out in support of inclusion of eggs in the meals for the students.

Stressing on the nutrition value eggs contain, the organizations said that it's the most suitable option to combat malnutrition among children in no time. "If eggs are not included in the state programs even now, then the children of Chhattisgarh will be pushed further into malnutrition," they added.

CM Baghel instructed that eggs should be served twice a week in midday meals in schools and Anganwadis. However, Congress MLAs have urged the govt to increase it to three days. And a step ahead, these social organistaions have appealed the state government to provide eggs to students at least five days a week.
